Turtles Nesting on Amelia Island

In late summer we have some unique arrivals here on Amelia Island.  Sea Turtles nest all along our shoreline and it is only a matter of time until the baby turtles arrive on the scene.

Volunteers spend the summer watching over the nests....marking the locations and help insure the new arrivals are left unmolested.

In recent years, it has become more and more difficult for native species.  The fishing industry, changes in climate or habitat, changes in traffic at nesting sites...all mean life isn't easy for a baby turtle.
